Guernseys in field Fall 2017

Guernseys on Spring Pasture
Registered Guernsey Goats
We are focused on preserving the rare genetics of the Golden Guernsey, by breeding Guernseys here in the United States. We utilize our does for a microdairy and creamery, because without utilizing them, they are at risk of extinction. We raise our animals as naturally as possible, we do not disbud, vaccinate, or treat prophylactically for coccidia. We use herbal wormers, FAMANCHA scoring, and fecal testing to keep worm loads to a minimum. This hearty breed needs very little "treatment" to flourish - one of the many reasons we love them. Visit us to get some GOLD!
Many people ask us about American vs Purebred or Herdbook vs British Guernsey status with our Guernseys listed here. We have chosen to no longer register with the British Goat Society because of the trouble we have had in "progressing" our goats from Herdbook status to British Guernsey status. (We agreed to go back and register all past sold Guernseys that qualified with the BGS since the ADGA has delayed so awfully for so long). We will be registering our Guernseys with the ADGA as soon as the book opens. It is our understanding that the transition from American to Purebred will work the same as it does with Sables, as stated in the Guide book:
"b. Sables having three generations of American Sable ancestry or one parent with three generations of American Sable ancestry and one parent Purebred Sable will be entered into an open Purebred Sable herd book. “
Hopefully, this will explain why some of our goats are listed as one "status" with BGS, but another with ADGA. The ADGA rules are more mathematical and a bit easier to follow in our opinion.
Either way, we place very little value on their "status" with either registry. What matters most to us is breeding true to type while improving dairy productiveness.
