Can anyone advertise?
Generally, yes. But your ad must be relevant to the farms that are listed on Openherd and the general demographic of Openherd site visitors. The only account types that currently can't advertise are Herd Health plans, as they do not include any marketplace presence.
What can I advertise?
Basically anything that is relevant and related to the kind of farms listed on Openherd. Products on Openherd are typically hand-made and made from natural materials/ingredients, not mass-produced. Browse the various categories under Products and Services to get an idea for what kinds of things can be advertised on Openherd. All ads must adhere to our Advertising Terms.
What kinds of ads can I run?
There are 2 types of ads you can run
- Boosted Listing: If you are a farm or vendor and have animals or products/services listed on the Marketplace, then you have the option to "boost" your listing's position in the results to the first section of results, giving you the best visibility. They are easy to run (just select the animal or product/service and your listing is boosted) and very affordable.
- Display Ads: If you want to customize your ad, then a display ad is the best option. Customization includes: Your own custom designed graphic, your own text (depends on ad option), selecting the category to run the ad in, and clicks will go to the external site/url you specify.
Please view Advertising Guide above for more details and examples of each ad type.
How are ads placed?
Boosted listings stay within their original listing categories and parent categories and are "boosted" up to the first section of results on the page. Initially they are displayed in random order and, thereafter according to the search criteria and sorting the visitor selects.
Display ads are placed within the category you select and all parent categories. Ads are displayed randomly among boosted and regular results, starting from the top. The final position of your ad will depend on how many ads are running in that particular category. Typically, as the category becomes more specific, the higher your ad will feature in that category as there will be fewer ads. Therefore, it is important to carefully select your specific category.
How long do ads run for?
You can run an ad for 7 days, 14 days, or 30 days. See corresponding ad pricing above.
When can I run an ad?
You can schedule your ad to run any time, based on the start date you select. Ads go live at midnight Eastern Time.
Will my ad need to be reviewed/approved?
All ads are reviewed but some may be subject to a delay before going live while they are reviewed. If your ad says "Pending Review" then it is being reviewed and you will be notified when it is approved and released to run.
Can my ad be taken down?
If an ad violates our advertising Terms, we reserve the right to suspend the ad without advance notice. If your ad is suspended, it will display "Suspended" and you will be notified at your account email address. Please review our Advertising Terms for details.
How do ad credits work?
By purchasing ad credits, you can take advantage or bulk or discounted purchasing and then decide later when to run an ad and what type to run. Ad credits don't expire, as long as you log into your account at least once a year. When you're ready to run an ad, after you have selected the type of ad and run time, the amount of ad credit cost for that ad will be displayed. After you schedule your ad, the ad credits will be deducted from your ad credits balance.
If I cancel an ad, will I get a refund?
If you cancel an ad before it has gone live, your ad credits will be refunded to your credit balance. If you cancel ad ad after it has gone live, you will not receive a refund or partial refund of ad credits.
Can I cash out my unused ad credits
No. Ad credits are non-refundable and non-transferable once purchased.
